Here's where it all happened - Kohunlich. Latitude: 18° 25' 0 N, Longitude: 88° 46' 60 W

The 50 mile race, which snaked through the ruins and down jungle roads, started at midnight Sunday.

Kohunlich ruins temple, or Acropolis. These are the Mayan ruins of Kohunlich . Pronounced (Ko whoon leech) accent on the last syllable.

Here you have the famous “Mascaron de Kohunlich” of Cultura Maya, used as the design for the top finisher awards.

Hotel Explorean is set in the Jungle surrounding and 1.5 miles from the ruins. It’s jungle surroundings hold Howler Monkeys, Toucans, Coatimundis, more birds and snakes (tales of Jaguars abound as well).
