Saucony Freedom ISO

A comprehensive review of Saucony's latest premium performance workhorse

Find It Here

Saucony debuted their signature EVERUN technology last year and have featured it in nearly all of their flagship shoes in one form or another. Typically, you’ll find it as a thin top layer just underneath the sock liner and it’s been known to provide a smooth and responsive ride. The Freedom ISO, a multifaceted daily trainer with wicked good looks, is the first shoe to feature a full-length EVERUN midsole from heel to toe. I’ve used this shoe for everything from long runs to speed workouts and it continues to impress me. It just feels good, and what more can you ask from a shoe?

Who would love this |

This shoe is perfect for the neutral runner seeking a highly cushioned shoe with a premium fit and performance feel. Saucony seamlessly integrated (Literally. The upper is seamless) a blend of technology, innovation, and an attention to what runners’ want on their feet. The Freedom ISO is good, really good. Dare I say, great! If you’re someone who wants 83% energy return, 3X greater durability, and a seriously freeing running experience, then look no further.

 | Overall Experience |

As you slip your foot into the shoe and perform the obligatory toe-wiggle and awkward bouncy shuffle that accompanies every shoe try on, you immediately feel the soft step-in cushion. However, once you put this shoe through its paces on the road it tends to yield a more responsive ride the harder you push it. I’d call it responsive cushioning. It’s plush enough to protect you from the road, yet firm enough to keep you feeling strong. Attribute this to Saucony’s full-length EVERUN midsole. “You’ve got to get your feet on this stuff”, as they say at Saucony.

| Fit |

The minimal ISOFIT upper stretches with the foot, yet still maintains a locked in feeling around the mid foot so you won’t feel sloppy in all that seamless comfort. Saucony utilizes a seamless bootie-like construction that really hugs the foot. I would also like to add that these shoes do best on the road. If you fancy yourself a trailblazer, the Freedom may not give you quite enough support or stability. That being said, the lacing system pulls it all together and the slightly stretchy laces ensure that once the shoe gets tied, it isn’t coming undone.

 | Sizing |

Get this one a half-size up. The shoe has a slightly shallow toe box and your toes will appreciate a little extra room to breathe. I went up from my usual 10.5 to an 11 and it made all the difference. If you’re unsure, one of our FIT experts can take measurements of your foot and tell you without a doubt what size will work best for you!

| Final Verdict |

The Freedom ISO is a shoe bred for performance. It has unmatched energy return that yields a springiness and cushioning that keeps my legs feeling fresh from start to finish (and the next day). If you think you would benefit from a flexible shoe that boasts supreme cushioning and a beautiful spring that is sure to put pep in your step, you owe it to yourself to try this thing on. What do you have to lose? At the very worst you’ve subjected yourself to unmatched customer service, extensive knowledge, and the very best people in the industry. If the stars align, you’ll leave with a fantastic shoe and enjoy miles and miles of happiness.
